For the last three years I have been a slave to music journalism. Believe it or not, it isn't the glamour or the luxurious lifestyle that I am drawn to. Rather, it is the sense of duty I feel to bring together two of the things I love most in life - music and writing. I am still moved by the palpable change that washes over a crowd at the first strike of a guitar chord. The way that a collection of nouns, adjectives and verbs are constructed to make something that can ring with such truth and efficacy is a beautiful thing. Therefore, I feel it is my duty to write with caution and care when reporting or analyzing music, because I owe it to both art forms to always try my best.
I have experience writing for both online and print publications. I am mainly focused on life and arts feature pieces, but have experience writing news pieces and including investigative journalism. I have learned to adjust my style dependent on the medium, and can now easily shift between blogging and newspapers.
When I am not writing (which isn't very often, believe me), I try to enjoy Austin to its fullest. I love being so obsessed with the city that I live in. I spend my free time making music, running and eating Mexican food. I passively enjoy photography, although I don't have as much time to devote to it as I would like. I am also completely enamored by the French language and culture. I was lucky enough to study in Lyon in summer 2010, and I plan on returning after I graduate to teach conversational English courses.
